Based in Waynesboro in Wayne County, Presto Contractors installs underground utilities across southeast Mississippi and southwest Alabama. A new house needs a water line from the meter. Inside city limits, it usually needs a sewer line out to the city's main too. We dig the trench to the depth the job calls for and lay the pipe. A shop or a barn out back may need its own water line as well.
In Wayne County, water comes from the City of Waynesboro or one of several rural water systems. Each water system has its own steps for the tap and the meter. A call to yours comes first, and we build the line to what they ask for.
On a lot headed for a septic system, the Mississippi State Department of Health evaluates the soil and site first. MSDH says the Permit/Recommendation from that evaluation is required to obtain a water meter. The septic system and any gas line are separate trades, and MSDH lists certified installers for septic work.

Mississippi law requires a locate request through Mississippi 811 before a trench is dug. Mississippi 811 says the request goes in at least 3 working days, and no more than 10, before the dig. Working days skip weekends and legal holidays. The utilities then have 3 working days to mark their lines.
Each utility marks its lines with paint or flags in the color for that kind of line. White paint or flags show where the digging is planned. The tolerance zone is 18 inches each side of the marks, plus half the line's width if shown. Inside that zone, Mississippi 811's guide calls for hand tools until the line is exposed.
A Mississippi ticket is good for 20 calendar days, and a longer job needs a renewal before it expires. Across the state line, the call goes to Alabama 811. Alabama law asks for at least 2 working days' notice, and the day the request goes in does not count.
